The story of all that the federal government does every day to keep us safe, healthy and prosperous often goes untold or unheard. But in fact, our government is powered by dedicated public servants working in cities and towns across the country to support and improve our daily lives. The Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals® honor these exceptional public servants who keep our nation running and moving forward. Although the work of these American heroes might be less visible than athletes, actors and musicians, their efforts have a tremendous impact on our lives. This premier awards program for career federal employees, known as the Sammies and considered the “Oscars” of public service, shines the spotlight on remarkable accomplishments that benefit the nation, seeks to build trust in our government and inspires more people to consider careers in public service.
