Geiss has championed the safe use of alternative fuels and other methods to lower energy consumption by Air Force combat and support operations to ensure the department saves money while accomplishing its national security mission. In addition to reducing fuel use by millions of gallons a year, he led conservation initiatives that lowered utility costs on military installations.
