Government Matters: Brandon Wales

Back to All Videos

Just after the 2020 presidential election, Brandon Wales suddenly found himself acting director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), leading the country through some of the worst cyber and ransomware attacks on government and private networks.

  • Wales said he became acting director at a “pivotal time” after Chris Krebs was fired and that the organization rose to the occasion.
  • He explained that his job now is to look at long-range strategy and policy development for the agency to improve the cybersecurity of the country and global ecosystem.
  • When the government started distributing Covid-19 vaccines in late 2020, Wales led the successful effort to prevent adversaries from exploiting the fragility of the supply chain.
